**Survey Bias Question**

**Problem Statement:**

To estimate the proportion of students at a college who spend more than 2 hours per day on Facebook, a random sample of students at the college is selected and each student is interviewed. The students conducting the survey are worried that people who spend a lot of time on Facebook may be embarrassed to admit it, and their responses may not be honest.

**Question:**

What type of bias are the students conducting the survey worried about?

**Options:**

(a) Selection bias
(b) Nonresponse bias
(c) Measurement bias
(d) Bias due to confounding
(e) There is no obvious source of bias

The focus of the students’ concern is measurement bias, as they worry about the accuracy and honesty of the responses given by students who might underreport their Facebook usage due to embarrassment.

Expert Solution
Step 1

For any study, if an individual does not provide accurate results or is not willing to participate in the study, then the study will not provide accurate results and the bias due to this is known as the nonresponse bias.  In this case, the researcher students ask students regarding the total spent on Facebook. The given question, that is asked to the respondents of the survey creates bias responses and it will probably understate the time spent on Facebook by the students because it is more likely that the responses are not honest.
