Step 1 Introduction on NMDA channels:

NMDA( N methyl D aspartate receptor) is an ionotropic glutamate receptor fund in nerve cells. NMDA receptor is activated only when glutamate and glycine binds to it and the receptors when activated allows only positively charged ions to pass through it. There are important for their function in learning and memory. They are made of tetrameric ion channels composed of a family of related subunits. Aging in human population and decline in cognitive function is relevant to the depletion in NMDA receptor expression. Activation of the receptors results in opening of ion channels that is non selective to cations.
