Expert Solution
Step 1
Given,
Mass of truck M = 1800 kg
Initial velocity of truck vt = 14 m/s
Mass of car m = 1000 kg
Initial velocity of car vm = 18 m/s
Since the car and truck lock together after Collision, it is an inelastic collision.
Using the conservation of momentum,
- Mvt + mvc = (M+m)v
v = (-Mvt + mvc)/(M+m)
v = (-1800*14 + 1000*18)/(1800+1000)
v = (-25200 + 18000)/2800
v = - 7200/2800 = 2.57 m/s
