Photoinhibition is when the rate of photosynthesis is decreased or even stopped due to excessive light exposure resulting in the reduction of plant growth
The photosynthesis process begins when solar energy or light absorbed via the pigment of the plant referred to as chlorophyll. The chlorophyll in its activated form aids in the transfer of an electron from one specific acceptor to another forming a chain. Mainly photosynthesis occurs in bacteria, algae, and plants. The plant and algae both consist of chloroplasts that carry out photosynthesis through this process they can make their own food. Many bacteria can carry out or perform photosynthesis and synthesize their food. Bacteria comprise of different pigments that allow absorption of light and aid in photosynthesis. Some examples of autotrophic bacteria are purple bacteria, cyanobacteria, and green sulfur bacteria.
