Expert Solution
Step 1

Forgetting is a common phenomenon and can happen in both short-term and long-term memory. Forgetting refers to the difficulty in recollecting the information. Working memory is a temporary memory as it can hold approximately seven items and has a very less duration of 10-15 seconds. Encoding takes place in the working memory. If this information is not rehearsed then it will eventually be forgotten and will not pass into the long-term memory. Working memory is considered to be one of the executive functions of the brain.
