A bar graph is used to represent the data of categorical variable graphically. In the bar graph the horizontal axis represents the different levels of the variable and vertical axis is used to given the frequency of each level.

The frequency of a level gives the number of times the level is repeated in the dataset. For example a variable is the colour which is selected by a person and if red colour is selected by 3 persons then its frequency will be 3. In the bar graph the height of the bar is equal to corresponding frequency.
