Based on information from class, which configuration is forward biased and why?
For each circuit, explain the value of the voltage drop across the resistor. Is there a
current present? Why?
Identify the Anode and Cathode of the Diode. Explain how you can tell both visually
and by its operation in the circuit.
Comment on the differences between the two circuits and the effect the diode has in
each circuit.

Transcribed Image Text:Lab - The diode
PURPOSE: To study the current control characteristics of a diode.
OBJECTIVES:
Identify forward and reverse bias diodes in a circuit.
Use the test equipment to aid in the investigation of diodes.
The diode is a device used to control current. It conducts current only in one direction. There are
two basic ways that it can be connected in a circuit to produce different results, forward bias
and reverse bias.
Low power small signal diodes, Zener diodes, photodiodes and light emitting diodes are just a
few examples of diodes. In this lab you will use Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to investigate the
two different connections of a diode and their effects on a circuit.
