7. Make a decision (reject the null/fail to reject the
null).
8. Compute the 95% confidence interval.
9. Write the results as you would for reporting using
the confidence interval for the effect size (not r-
squared). (This does not mean provide an
interpretation.)

Purpose of Assignment: to demonstrate the ability to
test a null hypothesis on two independent groups,
construct a confidence interval and report the results.
Scenario: a study is conducted on the effects of two
medications (Drug A and Drug B) upon anxiety in two
groups of participants. Two random samples of
participants have been selected for the study - one
group receiving Drug A and the other group receiving
Drug B. After two weeks, the participants are
measured on anxiety with the following results:
Drug Drug

Tasks
1. State the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis
in symbols. Use .05 as the alpha.
2. Compute the degrees of freedom.
3. Go to the t table and locate the critical regions.
4. Calculate the pooled variance.
5. Calculate the estimated standard error.
6. Compute the t statistic.
