Introduction
Blood agar is both enriched and differential media that contains 5% of the sheep blood. Blood agar helps to identify the bacterial ability to breakdown the red blood cells. Breakdown of red blood cell is catalyzed by an enzyme, hemolysins and this process is called hemolysis.
Hemolysis is classified into three three types such as alpha hemolysis, beta hemolysis and gamma hemolysis. The common microorganisms that are involved in hemolysis are Streptococcus, Enterococcus, and Staphylococcus species.
