Expert Solution
Step 1

Tay sacs disease is caused due to absence of an enzyme involved in breakdown of fat molecules. As a result of this there is build up of fat in the brain and spinal cord which leads to  severe problems. It is autosomal recessive disorder. It is a type of disease in which two copies of the mutated gene must be present in order for the trait to develop.

Few points about autosomal recessive inheritance:

  • Trait skip generations
  • Transmitted by either sex
  • Distribution of the trait among sexes should be almost equal.
  • Affected person mating with unaffected person should produce 50% affected offspring.

Heterozygous genotype possess one of each allele for a particular trait.
