Minimum electric field strength
To calculate the minimum electric field strength needed between the plates, we can use the following equation:
F_e = qE
where:
- F_e is the electric force on the anti-proton
- q is the charge of the anti-proton
- E is the electric field strength
Since the anti-proton has a negative charge, the electric force will be in the opposite direction of the electric field. Therefore, in order to prevent the anti-proton from hitting the top plate, the electric force must be equal to the weight of the anti-proton.
