Nature vs nurture in human development is still being debated, much like what came first the chicken or egg. On the side of nature are the effects of genes and maturation. It is the biological unfolding of our behavior. On the other side are nurture, the effects of the environment, experience, and learning. Nurture also includes the influence of our culture and ethnicity. Or is our development a product of nature plus nurture?

Nurture also includes the influence of our culture and ethnicity. Or is our development a product of nature plus nurture? Many psychologists and geneticists see it as an interaction between nature and nurture. A baby is a smiley baby and parents smile back and the baby smiles again. The infant's temperament, behaviors we are born with, are that of an easy child. So when the baby smiles the parents smile back and the baby smiles again. Suppose instead of the parent smiling back the infant is ignored, what would the outcome be, a baby that frowns, just doesn't smile, or is this the beginning of a child's inability to trust others. Are many of our characteristics a result of nature or nurture? That still an interesting question. What do you think?
