Nations across the globe are dealing with the effects of global warming. As the Earth's temperature rises, we are seeing dramatic examples of how that plays out for Earth's inhabitants. These examples include many animal species becoming extinct as habitats decrease or change; more frequent and more devastating fires in Australia and the western United States; rising water covering the city streets of Venice, Italy and threatening homes and farmland in The Netherlands; intense heat waves in India killing humans and animals alike. Here in North Carolina, we have seen more severe storms in the last year than in any 12-month period since weather reporting began in our area. Last summer, many people in our area complained about the abundance and ferocity of poison ivy. It turns out that increased CO2 levels in the environment create perfect conditions for poison ivy to thrive.   What responsibility do we owe our fellow human beings to protect the environment?   What responsibility do we owe future generations to protect the environment?   What responsibility do we owe the Earth's animals and landforms to protect the environment?
