A 45-year-old woman has sustained a fracture of her right distal tibia and is put in a cast by an orthopedist who wants her to receive physical therapy. Orders are for gait training with non-weight bearing on the right lower extremity. 1. Name three activities that you anticipate the PT will teach the patient to do using crutches.
Tibia is the long bone located in the lower leg between the knees and foot
Tibial fractures ( Discontinuity of bone, or a break) are common and usually caused by injury or repetitive strain on the bone
Three activities that the PT will teach the patient to do using crutches:
If you are non weight bearing that you can not put any weight through your foot, you should push through your hands on the crutches to keep the weight off of you foot. As you walk you should be able to walk without your foot touching the ground
1-> During the time of Standing Up:
To stand up hold both crutches by the hand grips in one hand and push up with the other hand on the chair then put one crutch under each arm
2-> During the time of Sitting Down:
To sit down place both crutches in one hand holding the hand grip together and reach for the chair with your other hand to lower yourself slowly
