Step 1- Introduction

The given problem deals with hybridisation. Hybridisation is defined as the mixing of two orbitals to form electronically degenerate set of orbitals which is equal to the number of orbitals mixed. Here, we analyse using  VSEPR i.e. Valance shell electron pair repulsion theory, now in this method we calculate hybridisation of an atom using a hypothetical concept of Steric Number (SN). 

Steric Number = No. of single/sigma bonds + No. of lone pairs (on a particular atom).

Important info.- π bond or double bond is not included in SN.

By using above hypothesis, we can see that :

For sp hybridisation , SN = 2 i.e. s+p

For sp2 hybridisation , SN = 3 i.e. s+p+p

For sp3 hybridisation , SN = 4 i.e. s+p+p +
