My bottle of Duff beer has an alcohol content of 8.0% by weight. Find the molality, the mole fraction of the solute, the mole fraction of the solvent, and the molarity of the beer. The density of Duff beer is 0.9976g/cm3. Assume the beer consists only of water and ethanol
My bottle of Duff beer has an alcohol content of 8.0% by weight. Find the molality, the mole fraction of the solute, the mole fraction of the solvent, and the molarity of the beer. The density of Duff beer is 0.9976g/cm3. Assume the beer consists only of water and ethanol.
To solve this we have to consider the weight of solution = 100.0 g
Then ,
The mass of alcohol in Duff bear = 8.0 g and
Mass of solvent (water) = 100.0 g - 8.0 g = 92.0 g = 0.092 Kg
Density of solution = 0.9976g/cm3 = 0.9976g/mL
Molar mass of ethanol = 46.07g/mol
Molar mass of water = 18.02 g/mol
So
Number of mole of ethanol = mass /molar mass = 8.0g/(46.07g/mol) = 0.17 mol
Number of mole of water = mass/molar mass = 92.0g/(18.02g/mol) = 5.1 mol
Total number of mole = 0.17 mol + 5.1 mol = 5.27 mol
