Expert Solution
Step 1

Mosses are tiny, non-vascular, flowerless plants that can also belong to the bryophyte family, which includes liverworts, hornworts, and mosses. In wet or shaded areas, mosses frequently develop dense, green mats or clumps. The basic leaves on individual plants are typically only one cell thick, linked to a stem that may or may not have branches, and play a very limited role in transporting water and nutrients. Despite the fact that certain species have conducting tissues, these tissues are typically underdeveloped and physically distinct from tissue found in vascular plants. Mosses do not produce seeds; instead, they produce sporophytes, which are unbranched stalks topped with spore-containing capsules. Most species are between 0.2 and 10 cm (0.1 and 3.9 in) tall, but others are much bigger.
