- The cations or metal are named first.
- Non metals or anions are named ending with -"ide"
- The oxidation number is presented in parentheses.
- The polyatomic anions are named with ending in "ate"(more number of oxygen) or "ite"(less number of oxygen atoms are present in comparison to -ate ending compound)
Covalent compound :
These are the compounds formed by elements with complete transfer of electrons from one element to atom of another element.
Naming covalent compound :
- The non element present farthest left in the periodic table , should be named by its elemental name.
- The other non metal should be named in ending "ide".
- The prefixes mono, di , tri etc should be used to indicate the number of atoms of the specific constituent present
