Expert Solution

Cycles per Instruction
Cycles per instruction, or CPI, is a metric that has been part of the VTune interface for years. It shows the average number of CPU cycles required to clear an instruction and is therefore an indicator of how much system latency has affected the running application.
With single-threaded processors, the best achievable CPI is 1. However, with multi-threaded processors, even better CPI values (CPI <1) can be achieved. In this case, the processor is said to be hypersonic.
