Social roles are the ones that we play as being part of our community or society. We tend to pursue the role assigned to us by our community. It involves beliefs, rights, rules, status, etc. Roles are usually occupied by people by individuals who play the roles. When a person gets a social role he/she has to follow certain associated with the respective role. Roles also have rewards and punishments associated with them. Roles can be ascribed and achieved. Ascribed roles are determined by birth or the factors on which we have no control while achieved roles are voluntary based on our skills, capacities, hard work, etc. The factors that influence roles are genetic factors, society, culture, and situations.
