Muscles are contractile tissues that are present in animals. It mainly produces motion. It converted chemical energy into mechanical energy. Muscles are of mesodermal origin. It is found in almost all types of animals. Muscles are composed of soft tissues made up of protein filaments mainly thin filament actin and thick filament myosin. Muscles perform various functions like locomotion, movement of subcellular organs, heart contraction and help in peristalsis (movement of food through oesophagus). Muscles use energy for their work. And this energy comes from the oxidative breakdown of fats and carbohydrates which produces ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
