Research into social life is never a close ended process as society is never static and is always in motion therefore we cannot describe any social process in distinct close ended terms. However, it is true that there are certain recurring and patterned ways in society relating to behavior, norms and values. These need to be encapsulated in theory and it helps in developing a general idea about how a social situation would unfold.
Generally research and theory relating to social life strive for the following things-
1. They strive to be empirical which is based on real life observable phenomena which exists in reality rather than assumptions and inferences based on preconceptions
2. They are objective and accountable where researcher does not include the biases in either research process and collection of data nor in theory making process
3. They rely on the cause effect analysis since they ask the question why? in relation to any topic
4. They tend to be more descriptive and include both qualitative and quantitative variables unlike natural sciences which only reply mainly on quantitative data
