Is working class middle class?

Expert Solution
INTRODUCTION

Class as a category was first introduced by Karl Marx in his theory of class struggle. He points that the social change process is the result of the struggle between the classes. In the capitalist society, he points out the two classes, the bourgeoisie, and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie is considered to be owners of the production, and the proletariat is the workers in the production process.

EXPLANATION

According to the classical description of these terms, the working class and the middle class are both different classes. But, in particular economic spectrums of society, these both are represented under one roof.

The middle class is divided into two categories- the upper-middle-class & the lower middle class.

Upper middle class: in this category, the people with the higher educational qualification, higher salaries form their employment, and even they work in high-status profile jobs. These are the group with high professional skills and high economic security, as C. Wright Mills pointed out.

Lower middle class: these are the people who have lesser educational qualifications. They earn comfortable salaries, which help them in maintaining the lifecycle to run. These category people have lesser socio-economic status compared to the upper-middle class. This division is the common categorization in most of the developed nations.

Working-class: These are the people who have very low educational qualifications. They perform the low-status occupations in the society, which fetches them below-average incomes, which is not sufficient to carry out the daily life cycle process. These working-class people are found in the industrialized economies. The working-class people commonly have a high school diploma, which doesn't fetch them highly paid jobs out in the market.
