Which role do γ motor neurons play in the function of a muscle spindle?
They enhance the force of muscles contraction by innervating intrafusal fibers. The gamma motor neurons are type of lower motor neurons that play a part in muscles contraction. It represents thirty percent of fibers goes to the muscles. Gamma neurons cells bodies are presented in the anterior grey column of the spinal cord. Reticular formation in the brain stem, send input to gamma neurons. The axons of Gamma neurons is smaller than alpha neurons. These neurons have 5m diameter. Alpha motor neurons adjust the lengthening and shortening of muscles. On the other hand gamma motor neurons are not able to do such things. The smaller neurons consists of smaller excitatory to reach the threshold as compare to the larger neurons.
