In this lab, you will use an online calculator to determine the Fresnel Zone radius of the first Fresnel Zone in a wireless link. NOTE: While the calculator used in this lab does not explicitly state that it is calculating the first Fresnel zone, it is performing the math operations to accomplish this result. 1. Lab 4 (Session 4): Calculating Fresnel Zones
In this lab, you will use an online calculator to determine the Fresnel Zone radius of the first
Fresnel Zone in a wireless link. NOTE: While the calculator used in this lab does not explicitly
state that it is calculating the first Fresnel zone, it is performing the math operations to accomplish
this result.
1. In a web browser, navigate to: https://www.everythingrf.com/rf-calculators/fresnel-
zone-calculator
2.
Set the Distance (D) to equal 2 Kilometers. (You must change the distance metric from
miles to km.)
3.
Set the Frequency (f) equal to 5180 MHz (the center frequency for Wi-Fi channel 36).
(You must change the frequency metric from GHz to MHz.)
4. Click Calculate to see the results.
Observe, in the formulas below the calculator, that the difference between calculations in miles
vs. kilometers is the constants 17.31 and 72.05 respectively and that calculations in kilometers
provide results in meters while calculations in miles provide results in feet.
In your OWN WORDS write up explain the following:
What is Fresnel Zone and why is it important?
What is the impact of the changes made in the four steps above?
Include a screen capture with the changed results.
