For all 3 trials of Study 2, CI had a mass of 1.0 kg.
However, the mass of C2 was varied from trial to trial. At
the start of each trial, C1 was at rest. The students launched
C2 toward C1 at a speed of 0.300 m/sec, and the carts col-
lided. Small lumps of clay attached to the end of C2 caused
the 2 carts to join together. The joined carts then moved
together, as shown in Figure 2,
