Question
I'm confused on how to draw a skeleton structure product of a bronsted acid base reaction as well as to where to put the charge
Expert Solution
Step 1
According to Bronsted concept,
Acid is defined as a substance which has a tendency to donate a proton to any other substance and base is a substance which has a tendency to accept a proton from any other substance.
When an acid loses a proton, the residual part of it acquires negative charge and has tendency to regain the proton. Therefore it behaves as a base, known as conjugate base. When a base accept that proton accept that proton then it acquires positive charge and has tendency to loose that proton. Therefore it behaves as acid, known as conjugate acid.
