States of Matter
The substance that constitutes everything in the universe is known as matter. Matter comprises atoms which in turn are composed of electrons, protons, and neutrons. Different atoms combine together to give rise to molecules that act as a foundation for all kinds of substances. There are five states of matter based on their energies of attraction, namely solid, liquid, gases, plasma, and BEC (Bose-Einstein condensates).
Chemical Reactions and Equations
When a chemical species is transformed into another chemical species it is said to have undergone a chemical reaction. It consists of breaking existing bonds and forming new bonds by changing the position of electrons. These reactions are best explained using a chemical equation.
![**Law of Conservation of Mass in Chemical Reactions**
**Educational Content:**
If the reactants of a chemical equation react, then the ________ will have the same ________ as the reactants. This because of the ________ of ________ of mass.
**Explanation for Students:**
When writing and balancing chemical equations, it is important to understand the Law of Conservation of Mass. This principle states that mass is neither created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction. Therefore, the mass of the products must equal the mass of the reactants. Fill in the blanks with the correct terms as you learn more about chemical equations and this fundamental law in chemistry.](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2Fb122b1a9-b520-4b99-a975-927454cf18ce%2F1bc222a6-5c92-4db6-bdf7-5395567c9367%2Fwd3zxjh_processed.jpeg&w=3840&q=75)
![## The Law of Conservation of Mass Data Sheet
The **law of conservation of mass** states that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Even when matter goes through a physical or chemical change, the total mass of matter always remains the same.
### Data Table:
| Substance Name | Amount of Liquid (ml) | The Mass of the Reactants Before the Chemical Reaction (g) | The Mass of the Product After the Chemical Reaction (g) |
|-----------------|------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------|
| Sodium Sulphate | | | |
| Barium Chloride | | | |
