If (H30+)=1M, provide the hydroxide ion concentration [HO") by performing a calculation using equation 8.15. Please input your answer in the format 1E-7 (with no units). Type your answer and submit
Ionic Equilibrium
Chemical equilibrium and ionic equilibrium are two major concepts in chemistry. Ionic equilibrium deals with the equilibrium involved in an ionization process while chemical equilibrium deals with the equilibrium during a chemical change. Ionic equilibrium is established between the ions and unionized species in a system. Understanding the concept of ionic equilibrium is very important to answer the questions related to certain chemical reactions in chemistry.
Arrhenius Acid
Arrhenius acid act as a good electrolyte as it dissociates to its respective ions in the aqueous solutions. Keeping it similar to the general acid properties, Arrhenius acid also neutralizes bases and turns litmus paper into red.
Bronsted Lowry Base In Inorganic Chemistry
Bronsted-Lowry base in inorganic chemistry is any chemical substance that can accept a proton from the other chemical substance it is reacting with.
![The ion product of water is important since it describes any water solution not just pure water. In other
words, if either the hydronium ion or hydroxide ion concentrations are known, the other can be calculated.
The value of pK,w (pKw =14) can be determined from the power of the Kw value in equation 8.15 and a sign
change.
Since concentrations are often small and are expressed using scientific notation, another scale, pH, is
commonly used to report acidity. Just like pka, pH is logarithmic, reported as the power of ten with a sign
change.
pH = - log [H30*]
8.16
Pure water has a pH equal to seven (from [H30*] = 10-7), and a complete range of pH values appear in Table
9.4. The concentration of acid increases as the value of pH decreases; the smaller the pH, the more acidic a
solution. Each pH unit represents a 10-fold change in concentration. Table 9.4 also shows the concentration
of hydroxide in each solution, calculated from the ion product of water (equation 8.15).
