If a water balloon is thrown DOWNWARDS at a 38 degree angle (measured from the horizontal) at 5 m/s from the top of a 10 m building, how far from the base of the building will it hit (hint, first find how long will it take to hit the ground).

Question

Please help on four part question

A)

If a water balloon is thrown STRAIGHT UP at 12 m/s from the top of a 39 m building, how long will it take to hit the ground?

Note:

  • vyo is not equal to zero, so nothing cancels out in y = vyo t + 1/2 ay t2
  • SIGNS: vyo is up and ay is down and the rock falls down - opposite directions mean opposite signs. I'd call vyo positive, and both ay and y negative
  • you'll end up with a quadratic equation to solve

B) If a water balloon is thrown STRAIGHT DOWN at 5 m/s from the top of a 33 m building, how long will it take to hit the ground?

Note:

  • vyo is not equal to zero, so nothing cancels out in y = vyo t + 1/2 ay t2
  • SIGNS: vyo and ay and y are all down so all the signs are the same
  • you'll end up with a quadratic equation to solve

C)

If a water balloon is thrown UPWARDS at a 19 degree angle at 10 m/s from the top of a 21 m building, how far from the base of the building will it hit? (hint, first find how long will it take to hit the ground).

Note:

  • vyo is not equal to zero, so nothing cancels out in y = vyo t + 1/2 ay t2
  • SIGNS: vyo is UP and ay and y are both DOWN - fix the signs so that everything pointing up is one sign and everything down is the opposite sign
  • you'll end up with a quadratic equation to solve
D) If a water balloon is thrown DOWNWARDS at a 38 degree angle (measured from the horizontal) at 5 m/s from the top of a 10 m building, how far from the base of the building will it hit (hint, first find how long will it take to hit the ground).

Note:

  • vyo is not equal to zero, so nothing cancels out in y = vyo t + 1/2 ay t2
  • SIGNS: vyo and ay and y are all down so all the signs are the same
  • you'll end up with a quadratic equation to solve
