Question

If a person has a “brain tumor,” is it more likely to have
developed from neurons or from glial cells? Why?

Expert Solution
Step 1

A brain tumor can be described as a medical condition during which an abnormal cell mass is accumulated in the brain which may be malignant or benign. Headache represents one of the major symptoms of brain tumors. The other symptoms may include dizziness, partial loss of hearing and vision, hallucinations, and more.

Step 2

In humans, the brain is majorly made up of non-neuronal cells called glial cells which do not produce any kind of nerve impulse but play a major role in maintaining homeostasis and supporting neuronal functions. The glial cells are the major cells found in the central nervous system as compared to the neurons. Also, the glial cells have a high division rate which makes them more susceptible to different types of carcinogens which give rise to tumors.
