Question
- If 6.50 grams of copper metal were to react with a 120 mL of 0.731 M solution of silver nitrate, how many grams of silver could be produced? The other product is copper (II) nitrate.
Expert Solution
Step 1
The reactants reacting are silver nitrate i.e AgNO3 and copper i.e Cu to produce copper (II) nitrate i.e Cu(NO3)2 and silver i.e Ag.
Hence the reaction can be written as,
=> AgNO3 + Cu -------> Cu(NO3)2 + Ag
Balancing : Since we have 2 N in RHS. Hence making it 2 in LHS also.
=> 2 AgNO3 + Cu -------> Cu(NO3)2 + Ag
Now we have 2 Ag in LHS. Hence making it 2 in RHS also.
=> 2 AgNO3 + Cu -------> Cu(NO3)2 + 2 Ag
Since all the elements are in equal number in both side of the reaction now.
Hence the above reaction is now balanced.
