Identify which of the 4 types of cell junctions are involved or being targeted in each of the following scenarios: a. Bacteria crosses from the blood into the brain b. Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) moves from one cell to another in a tobacco plant c. Material leaks from the small intestines into the tissues in a Crohn’s disease patient d. Sheets of skin peel off in a patient with Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome (SSSS) e. Cardiac arrhythmia caused by disrupted flow of ions between cardiac muscle cells

The cell junction is a cell-cell or cell-extracellular matrix contact within a tissue of a multicellular organism, especially abundant in epithelia.
The four types of cell junctions are plasmodesmata, tight junctions, gap junctions, and desmosomes.
1. Bacteria can cross the blood-brain barrier in different ways by invading and crossing through blood endothelial cells which are a transcellular pathway, by disrupting intercellular junctions and inducing cell damage which is paracellularly, or in infected phagocytes which is a Trojan‐horse mechanism.- Gap junctions.
2. TMV is transmitted when an infected leaf rubs against a leaf of a healthy plant, by contaminated tools, and occasionally by workers whose hands become contaminated with TMV after smoking cigarettes. The virus can also contaminate seed coats, and the plants germinating from these seeds can become infected.= plasmodesmata.
