Can i get help with these problems
Ions are charged species which can be both positively or negatively charged. These are of two types. Cations are formed by the loss of electrons. Anions are formed by the gain of electrons.
Ionic compounds are formed by the transfer of electrons from cations to anions. In the ionic compounds, the electronegativity difference in between the atoms of these elements is high. These compounds are made up of a metal and a non-metal.
Covalent compounds are formed by sharing of electrons in between two or more atoms. In the covalent compounds, the electronegativity difference in between the atoms of these elements is very low or zero. These compounds are made up of only non-metals.
If the electronegativity difference between the atoms is less than 1.7, it is a covalent compound and if the electronegativity difference is more than 1.7, than it is an ionic compound.
(c)
The given compound is HBr. It is made up of nonmetals which are hydrogen and bromine. The electronegativity of H is 2.2 and Br is 2.96. The electronegativity difference of H and Br is 0.76.
So, it is a covalent compound.
