Types of chemical reactions-

There are five types of chemical reactions-

1. Combination reaction-A new substance formation by combination (mixing) of two substances.

e.g. 2Na+ Cl22NaCl

2. Decomposition reaction-breaking of large molecule into small molecules or simpler substances.

e.g.Na2CO3 2NaO +CO2

3. Single displacement reaction-replacement of one element by similar element in an another molecule in a reaction.

e.g. Cu +ZnSO4 CuSO4 + Zn

4. Double displacement reaction-in reaction positive and negative ions of two ionic compounds displaces each other to form new compounds.

e.g. PbNO3+ KI PbI2 + KNO3

Precipitation reaction is a subtype of double displacement reaction in which combination of two aqueous ionic compounds to forms insoluble residue called as  precipitation reaction.

5. Combustion reaction-the reaction in which substance reacts with oxygen gas or air called as combustion reaction.

                       e.g.  C +12O2CO
