The blood supply to and from the lungs occurs by two types of blood vessels called the bronchial vessels and the pulmonary vessels. The pulmonary vessels supply blood between the heart and the lungs for gaseous exchange at the alveolar site. The bronchial arteries supply the oxygen-rich blood to the lung tissues and supply deoxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.

Pulmonary circulation- The pulmonary circulation that functions for gaseous exchange comprise pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins. The pulmonary arteries carry blood from the heart to the lungs, where they drain the blood into pulmonary capillaries. The pulmonary capillaries are present close to the alveoli, and the gaseous exchange occurs between the blood and the alveoli. The pulmonary veins carry the oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the heart.
Bronchial circulation- The bronchial arteries and veins also carry blood to and from the lungs. The bronchial arteries formed from the thoracic aorta's branching carry oxygen-rich blood to the bronchial tissues, visceral pleura and lymph nodes. In contrast, the bronchial vein carries deoxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.
