Thank you for your help, single means t-test makes sense. Can it possibly be a regression? where we are using the known X (1951 to1980) to predict the temperature from 1980 to 2017..

I don't think I explained the research scenario effectively.
I don't think it is a two-sample test, because we are comparing our sample (temperature between 1981-2017) on an already known
In this case, a two-sample test would not be appropriate. In this case wouldn't a one-sample test be more appropriate?
The research scenario states:
decide to look at whether there is a difference between the average temperature in the period between 1951-1980 and the average temperature in the period between 1981-2017.
Considering that we are interested in the difference.. wouldn't a one-sample t-test be most appropriate?
You initially said that the most appropriate statistical analysis for the data is a one sample
Okay so i am a little confused. So would the most appropriate statistical test be single means t test, regression or a two sample t test?
