1. In the 1990s, almost 20 hurricanes took place in Maryland. In the 2000s, an approximate of 29 hurricanes hit Maryland. In the 2010s, almost 33 hurricanes struck this place. In the 2020s, till date, 14 hurricanes struck this area. However, the severity of the hurricanes are considered to be of category 1 and category 2 which are not much severe. Therefore, the severity of these hurricanes were not much high. However, Hurricane Hazel and Hurricane Irene caused much destruction in this area. There is no such pattern in the data obtained and mentioned above.
In the year 1936, a great flood called Great Potomac and Susquehanna Flood took place in Maryland. Back in the year 1972, another great flood resulted from the Hurricane Agnes. In the year 1996, two great floods called Twin Floods took place in Maryland. In the year 1999, another flood took place as a result of the Hurricane Floyd. In the year 2003, another severe flood took place as a result of the Hurricane Isabel. The severity of all the floods were high, as all these floods caused huge devastation and destruction of property. The pattern that can be observed from the data is that most of the floods of Maryland took place as a result of the Hurricanes hitting this area.
2. The forecasts for the floods and hurricanes in the community can be carried out with the help of radars and satellites. In case of forecasting floods, the amount of rainfall occuring can be measured. The change rate in river stage is also taken into consideration while forecasting floods in the community. In case of hurricanes, the weather radar installed on the aircrafts are made to fly through the tropical cyclones. The hurricanes are tracked by the radar station. In addition to these, the data of previous hurricanes and floods are also taken into account while forecating floods and hurricanes. The slope-intercept equation of line can be used from the graph where the previous data of floods and hurricanes are plotted, for forecasting these natural hazards.
