Lungs can be defined as the type of internal and delicate organ of the body that participates in respiration. It is protected by the ribcage. It is a spongy organ that receives the deoxygenated blood and oxygenates it.
There are two types of vascular system present in the lungs. These systems are separate from each other. They are the pulmonary circuit and bronchial artery. The function of both systems is different from each other because the pulmonary circuit carries the deoxygenated blood in the body at low pressure. The pulmonary circuit includes the pulmonary artery and veins. The pulmonary artery is responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood to the lungs, whereas the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood from the lungs. In contrast, bronchial arteries carry oxygenated blood from the lungs at a relatively much higher pressure than the pulmonary circuit.
