How much does a sleeping bag cost? Let's say you want a sleeping bag that should keep you warm in temperatures from 20°Fto 45°F.A random sample of prices ($) for sleeping bags in this temperature range is given below. Assume that the population of xvalues has an approximately normal distribution. 50 45 50 105 90 40 30 23 100 110 105 95 105 60 110 120 95 90 60 70 (a)Use a calculator with mean and sample standard deviation keys to find the sample mean price xand sample standard deviation s. (Round your answers to four decimal places.) x=$77.65 s=$30.3389 (b)Using the given data as representative of the population of prices of all summer sleeping bags, find a 90% confidence interval for the
Continuous Probability Distributions
Probability distributions are of two types, which are continuous probability distributions and discrete probability distributions. A continuous probability distribution contains an infinite number of values. For example, if time is infinite: you could count from 0 to a trillion seconds, billion seconds, so on indefinitely. A discrete probability distribution consists of only a countable set of possible values.
Normal Distribution
Suppose we had to design a bathroom weighing scale, how would we decide what should be the range of the weighing machine? Would we take the highest recorded human weight in history and use that as the upper limit for our weighing scale? This may not be a great idea as the sensitivity of the scale would get reduced if the range is too large. At the same time, if we keep the upper limit too low, it may not be usable for a large percentage of the population!
