How much age affects inequality? Is there something the government can do about younger and older people's incomes?

Expert Solution
Step 1

People around the world of all ages are affected by inequality; nevertheless, there are certain times in life when disparity has a particularly large impact. Inequality affects and affects children and young people more than it affects and affects adults, and they are typically the least capable of defending themselves against it.

According to a new OECD analysis, some groups will face a high risk of impoverishment due to declining family sizes, increased inequality across working lives, and measures that have reduced pension payments.

Low wage workers have a shorter life expectancy than high-wage workers, which cuts their overall pensions even more. Raising the retirement age leads to enlarge the gap between poor and high incomes in total pensions, but the effect is minor.

The issue of old-age inequality is even more significant in emerging economies, with several, such as Brazil, China, and India, facing rapid ageing at a very early stage of development, greater health inequities, and a less effective social safety net than OECD countries.
