Question

How many handshakes are required for a group of 15 people to shake everyone's hand?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given information-

We have given a group of 15 people.

We have to find no. of handshake required to shake everyone’s hand.

Shaking hands in a group involves pairings of two people in all possible ways

Explanation:

Let say we have X people in the room. So, to shake hands we have to pair each one of these X with each one of the rest of people (X-1) in the room.

Therefore, Total possible pairing is = X(X-1).

Since in the above pairing we have counted each handshake twice.

So, the correct possible handshake is-

= X(X-1)/2
