History doesn't lack strong leaders, who have ignited the creativity of cultures and peoples or sparked revolutions but few have the lasting and universal influence of the "father of India", Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhi's legacy and ideologies still continue to exert a tremendous worldwide impact even 70 years after his death, perceived to be the greatest leader of  Indian movement of Independence. While Gandhi, as a human and as an emblem, is real to all of mankind, the nickname was affectionately given by Indians.

Almost every true leader has wanted to learn and carry on a rarity who has strived to live the same values he preached throughout his life, ranging from leaders like Martin Luther King to Mandela, to Dalai Lama, as well as the Ho Chi Min.                                                                                                                                                              Gandhi, however, was more than simply a sign of virtue. His intellectual astuteness and a rare openness for the Indian masses made it possible for him to anticipate problems that many others were unable to face. For eg, in his 1909 publication, Hind Swaraj, he recognized the difficulties that would arise with the advent of modernization.

Whilst Dr Martin Luther King Jr himself put it, "If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought, and acted, inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony. We may ignore him at our own risk"The quotation is especially revealing in that it reflects of the man who has striven to lead a life bound up with a finely designed belief structure which has grown to be respected by many of the most influential leaders of history.
As Gandhi returned from South Africa to India for the first time in 1915, he was struck by the suffering and injustice that his countrymen were exposed to. Then after he returned to India, he found and established unparalleled ways of uniting a nation, question a colonial authority and finally instigate a major revolution.. The Mahatma showed the world the transforming influence that determination, beliefs, integrity, and reality could have through a political campaign focused on civil disobedience and is best known as 'satyagraha."
