How does the practice of praising employees fit in the three motivation theories that involve goals?
An important part of helping employees set goals is also giving them regular feedback. This helps the employees understand what they need to do in order to reach the set goal. One part of my job is helping children that need more assistance to be able to understand grade-level concepts. If my boss saw that the strategy I was implementing was ineffective they could provide feedback to let me know that and help me figure out a better strategy. If they didn't let me know I might assume that I was doing a good job and not make any changes and possibly get further away from my goal of helping the children learn. If I made the required adjustments and the children began to improve my boss could then offer me praise. This would encourage me to keep improving so I could get more validation and the positive feedback would let me know that I was going in the right direction.
