Marine pollution occurs when the harmful substance enters the oceans and maybe in the form of agriculture, industrial or residential wastes.
The majority of the pollution occurs from the land surfaces and has proven to cause harmful effects on the habitats of marine organisms. The pollution is often associated with a nonpoint source such as agricultural runoff and wind blew debris and dust.
The growth of algae from the nutrient-rich water that enters the marine ecosystem may be potentially toxic for the animals and marine species as it depletes the oxygen capacity. Such as when the pesticides are incorporated into the marine ecosystem they tend to absorbed by the food web.
The pesticides may lead to mutations and cause diseases. These cause changes to the tissues and biochemistry, reproduction, and behavior of marine life.
Similarly, the toxic metals that are found in the food webs are a product of the same process. These heavy metals can be transferred to the land animals and appear in meat and dairy products later on.
