How do you discribe a positive and toxic school culture?
Expert Solution

Step 1
A school is an extremely crucial part of a child's childhood. It is also an important agent of socialization. The culture and the behavior a child receives from his/her school contributes a great deal towards their mental development. Not only his peer group but also his teachers and their conduct towards him should be checked and analyzed.
Step 2
A school's environment can be either positive or toxic in nature. Firstly, we need to go through some steps that are taken to ensure that a school environment is positive.
- Creating meaningful parent involvement is important because the proper upbringing of a child requires that he/she feels comfortable around their parents. Conducting group activities for the parents and their children help in the development of the parent-children bond.
- One should always look out for whether a child's good behavior is appreciated in a school. This helps the child to understand the benefits of good conduct.
- A school should have rules and norms that add to a child's values. It also teaches a child to abide by rules. Also, the rules should never be partial.
- It should be seen whether the children are engaged in activities that are beneficial to their mental and physical development.
- Education should not be hectic. It should be made as recreational as possible for the children to enjoy it.
- A positive school environment tries to impart knowledge to the students in innovative and creative ways such that the concepts are easier for them to grasp.
- A student should never be punished for asking questions. This might lead to the suppression of their curiosity.
- Another important point that needs to be kept in mind is that a school's culture should be flexible in nature, i.e. culture changes over time and the school authorities should respect the change and try to set rules according to it. Enforcing conservative ideologies on children greatly hamper their development.
