My concern/doubt: both values don't match with the density of gold, values are 100%correct. is it bcz medals are not solely made of gold? one of them has to be a gold bcz the description says: [" One of the video is an authentic Olympic gold medal won by US cross country skier Jessie Diggins. "

PHYSICS

One of the video is an authentic Olympic gold medal won by US cross country skier Jessie Diggins.

We'll use the concept of buoyancy to determine which is the real medal. We'll also determine what both the real and fake medal are made of.

Q) There are two Olympic medals: Medal(1) & Medal(2); one is real, other is fake. we have to determine which is real

From experiment given, measurements & calculations

Medal 1: mass of medal (before dipped in water) = 187.0g, mass of medal (after dipped in water)  = 162.4g, Volume = Volume of water displaced by medal 1 after dipped in H20. So: Density => 7.601 g/cm^3

Medal 2: mass of medal (before dipped in water) = 601.6g, mass of medal (after dipped in water)  = 547.1g, Volume = Volume of water displaced by medal 1 after dipped in H20. So: Density => 11.038 g/cm^3

My concern/doubt: both values don't match with the density of gold, values are 100%correct. is it bcz medals are not solely made of gold? one of them has to be a gold bcz the description says:

[" One of the video is an authentic Olympic gold medal won by US cross country skier Jessie Diggins. "]

GIVEN DENSITIES:

Aluminium = 2.72g/cm^3

Titanium = 4.5 g/cm^3

vanadium = 5.494 g/cm^3

zinc = 7.14 g/cm^3

steel = 7.85 g/cm^3

nickel = 8.91 g/cm^3

copper = 8.94 g/cm^3

silver = 10.5 g/cm^3

lead = 11.3 g/cm^3

gold = 19.3 g/cm^3

platinum = 21.4 g/cm^3

Also please answer this:(previous one I solved it myself, I am just asking to verify)

Q) You may have been surprised to learn that Olympic gold medals are not made from solid gold, but instead have a coating of gold on the outside.

To see a possible reason why, determine the value of the medal the size (not mass) of the Olympic gold medal if it were made of solid gold.

Hint:

As of mid-2018, the cost of gold is about $40 per gram.
