The muscle cells are also called the muscle fibrils and contain two types of myofilaments: thick and thin filaments. The thick filaments are primarily composed of myosin protein and are held in place by titin filaments. The thin filament is primarily composed of actin protein and is coiled with nebulin filaments. These actin and myosin proteins are the contractile proteins which slide over each other to allow muscle contraction.
