How do sex and gender differ?
Sexuality plays an important role in the life of an individual. It gives an individual social identity. Sexuality can be defined from different perspectives. Sociologically, sexuality can be defined from two perspectives, namely- biological and social.
Sex refers to the biological traits that an individual has. Sexual difference conventionally means the difference in the physical and biological features between a man and a woman. This includes the difference in the physical structure, genitalia, and genetic.
Gender, on the other hand, is more concerned with the social aspect of one's sexuality. A gender difference refers to the difference between the social role, behavior patterns, and expectations normally attached to a particular sex group. This includes generalized expectations like- a girl should like pink while a boy should always like blue and a girl should play with toys while a boy should play with sports cars, and so on.
