How did the Assyrian Empire rise to power and eventually dominate most of the ancient
Middle East?
Mesopotamia lies between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. There are also some river valleys that regularly flood, which makes it a habitable and fertile region. The currents of the Mesopotamian rivers are more violent and historically the people who lived there had to work very hard to obtain food. Also, resources like wood were always scarce. It all implied that the ancient Mesopotamian societies had to resort to trade or battles to acquire the resources they needed.
The Mesopotamian cities before 3000 BCE were mainly Sumerian. It was the major language of Mesopotamia and was also the first written language. Cuneiform was the writing system that Sumerians developed. This writing system became the foundation of various written languages later on. Around 3,000 BC a new set of people called Akkadians migrated to north Mesopotamia and started ruling the first empire in history.
